Our History

As one of America's oldest lighting showrooms, we trace our roots to 1866. We first sold fireplaces, then gaslights, then a combination of the two. In the early days of the electrical industry there were no national manufacturers of complete lighting fixtures, so in our shop we assembled sockets, wire, glass, and parts into a finished fixture.

We published catalogs of the fixtures we made and, as the business grew, so did the catalog. The 1922 edition of the Brecher Co. fixture catalog had 288 pages.

During the building boom following World War II, including the years of the Rural Electrification Co-operatives, we supplied lighting to homes throughout the entire southern United States.

In the 1970's Brecher's Lighting was instrumental in the establishment of the Showroom Division of the American Lighting Association, the trade association for the residential lighting industry. And we were among one of the first major showrooms to computerize.

Today, our showrooms feature an outstanding display of decorative lighting gathered from around the world. You will find the latest styles and designs, the latest technologies, and the skilled people to bring them together for your home, your lifestyle.
